CHET special promotion: $50 to new account owners
HARTFORD, CT — Check CHET Out! The Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) is offering a special four-day promotion to celebrate “529 Day” on May 29 as an incentive to families who open CHET college savings accounts.
Between May 29th and June 1st, Connecticut families who open a CHET 529 college savings account with a minimum $50 deposit and who sign up for automatic contributions of at least $25 per month will receive a $50 account contribution from CHET after six months.
“We’re offering this special promotion to remind and urge parents to save for college. With the cost of college education continuing to rise, saving for college early and consistently can only help when it is time to help your child realize his or her dream,” said State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier, Trustee of CHET.

The Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) college savings plan was established in 1997 and has enjoyed steady growth, surpassing $3.6 billion in assets under management and more than 150,000 accounts. In addition, since CHET‘s inception, more than $1.8 billion in qualified withdrawals have been taken to cover college costs for approximately 50,000 students attending nearly every public and private college in Connecticut and several out-of-state schools.
CHET offers tax advantages and some of the lowest fees in the country for a state-sponsored college savings account. Earnings withdrawn from CHET accounts for qualified higher education expenses are free from federal and state income taxes. Since 2006, a state income tax deduction has been available for contributions to CHET accounts.CHET is administered by the Office of Connecticut State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier.
