Past Winners

CHET Advance Scholarship was created to help Connecticut families save and pay for the rising cost of a college education. Since the launch of the Scholarship in 2013, $3 million has been given away to students ranging from sixth grade to seniors in high school.

CHET Advance Scholarship recipients from between the years 2013 and 2018: Find your scholarship year below to learn more about any action needed.

Fall 2018 Scholarship (2018-2019 School Year)

12th grade scholarship winners

You have until September 30, 2020 to utilize your CHET Advance Scholarship. If you chose to defer school for a year, in the spring of 2020 you will be asked to log in and complete the disbursement form by the deadline of June 30, 2020. If you have questions or need assistance call (855)-670-ISTS (4787) or email contactus@applyists.com.

In August 2019, ISTS will cut a check for $2,500, made out to your college of choice, and send it to your home address. You can then use the check to pay the school directly. If you will not yet be enrolled in the fall of 2019, you will have one year until the fall of 2020 to request and use the funds for college.

9th grade scholarship winners

All 9th grade winners from the fall 2018 CHET Advance Scholarship are eligible for up to $2,500 in scholarship funds. The initial $2,000 scholarship will be held by the Connecticut State treasurer's office on behalf of the winners. CHET is also providing the opportunity for an additional $500 match for a total scholarship of $2,500. In order to receive the additional $500 you must contribute at least $500 to your own CHET account by May of the student's senior year of high school. At the end of May of the student's senior year, CHET will review the associated accounts to determine if $500 was contributed, and will set aside the $500 match amount for that student.


Fall 2017 Scholarship (2017-2018 School Year)

12th grade scholarship winners

In the fall of 2017 100 high school seniors were awarded a $2,500 CHET Advance Scholarship. Recipients had until September 30, 2019 to claim the award. NOTE: Winners who did not claim their award by September 30, 2019 forfeited the scholarship.

9th grade scholarship winners

All 9th grade winners from the fall 2017 CHET Advance Scholarship are eligible for up to $2,500 in scholarship funds. 9th grade scholarship winners

All winners who were in 9th grade and were awarded the CHET Advance Scholarship in the fall of 2015 are eligible for up to $2,500 in scholarship funds. The initial $2,000 scholarship will be held by the Connecticut State treasurer's office on behalf of the winners. CHET is also providing the opportunity for an additional $500 match for a total scholarship of $2,500. In order to receive the additional $500 you must contribute at least $500 in your own CHET account by May of the student's senior year of high school, May 2019. You must provide the CHET account number that was set up for the student. At the end of May of the student's senior year, CHET will review the associated accounts to determine if $500 was contributed, and will add the $500 match amount for that student.

During the spring of 2019 ISTS sent you an email with instructions for completing the scholarship distribution form. Once ISTS contacts you via email, you will need to log-in to your ISTS CHET Advance Scholarship account (https://aim.applyists.net), fill in your college information and confirm your home mailing address.

Recipients who completed the disbursement form received their scholarship check for either $2,000 or $2,500 depending on qualifying individual CHET savings. Checks were made out to the specified college and sent to the specified home address.

Spring 2014 Scholarship (2013-2014 School Year)

11th grade scholarship winners

In the spring of 2014 100 high school juniors were awarded a $2,500 CHET Advance Scholarship. Recipients had until September 30, 2016 to claim the award. NOTE: winners who did not claim their award by September 30, 2016 forfeited the scholarship.

6th grade scholarship winners

All winners who were in 6th grade and were awarded the CHET Advance Scholarship in the spring of 2014 are eligible for up to $2,500 in scholarship funds. The initial $2,000 scholarship will be held by the Connecticut State treasurer’s office on behalf of the winners. CHET is also providing the opportunity for an additional $500 match for a total scholarship of $2,500. In order to receive the additional $500, you must contribute at least $500 in your own CHET account by May of the student’s senior year of high school. In the spring of the winner’s senior year CHET will review the associated accounts to determine if at least $500 was contributed, and will set aside the $500 match amount for a total $2,500 scholarship for that student.


Fall 2013 Scholarship (2013-2014 School Year)

In the fall of 2013 200 high school seniors were awarded a $2,500 CHET Advance Scholarship. Recipients had until September 30, 2015 to claim the award. NOTE: Winners who did not claim their award by September 30, 2015 forfeited the scholarship.



State Treasurer Shawn T. Wooden, as Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), is the sponsor of the CHET Advance Scholarship.

CHET Advance Scholarship is funded by TIAA Tuition Financing, Inc. and The Hartford, plan managers for CHET Direct-Sold and CHET Advisor-Sold programs respectively; no state funds or CHET account participant fees are used for awards. International Scholarship and Tuition Services, which has more than 25 years of scholarship administration experience, manages the application process with oversight from TIAA and the State Treasurer’s Office.
